ROCKFORD, IOWA - Steven R. Burke, 58, of Des Moines and formerly of Rockford, died Monday evening (March 15, 2010) at West Bridge Care and Rehab Center in Winterset.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Saturday, March 20, at First United Methodist Church, 21 Third St. N.W., Rockford, with the Rev. Judy Wooton officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to First United Methodist Church, Rockford.

Steven Robert was born the oldest child of seven, to Edward and Maxine (Myers) Burke in Charles City, on September 13, 1951. He graduated from Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock High School and then attended Lincoln Technology Institute for Automotive Training In Des Moines.
He started his career at General Tire and Stivers Lincoln Mercury and then for Zook Harley Davidson. In 1972 he worked for John Deere Works in Ankeny, and continued there for 30 years until he had a spinal cord injury and was forced to retire due to a disability. At the end of his career he was the final inspector for Deere.
Steve loved life and enjoyed being a part of the outdoors, spending time with his brothers fishing in Wisconsin, catching his all-time record of a 49-inch Muskie, hunting pheasants and deer, tending his garden, riding his motorcycle to Colorado and taking his dog Hershel on rides on it.His love of life was his family, nieces and nephews first and his cats Mira, Daisy, Mazzie and Tiger. Steve was a very generous guy and always took care of others. He was very active in the Local 450.
Those thankful in sharing Steve's life include his mother, Maxine Burke, of Rockford; three sisters, Marilou and her husband, Donald Dormeier, Fort Wayne, Ind.; Ellen and her husband, Mike Shea, of Hampton; Kristi Mason, of Rockford; three brothers Ervin and his wife, Jane Burke, of Ottumwa; Mike and his wife, Mary Burke, of Harlan; Robert and his wife, Michelle Burke, of Rochester, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
His father in 2000, and his maternal grandparents Harold and Mary Myers preceded him in death.
