William F. Cahal, 81, of Plainfield, died March 11, 2010, at the Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.

Pastor Gary Van Wert of the Trinity United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.

William Frederick Cahal was born June 29, 1928, in Floyd County, the son of William and Clara (Farley) Cahal. He attended Floyd County Country Schools.

He was united in marriage to Lavonna Matthews. They later divorced. Bill then married Clarice Hicks and they later divorced. In the 1950’s, he was employed at Goodyear Air Craft in Litchfield, Arizona and later in San Diego, Calif. Bill moved back to Iowa in 1959 to take over his father’s farm west of Nashua, where he milked cows and farmed until 1998.

After selling the dairy farm, he bought a small farm near Plainfield where he raised stock cows and in 2008 he purchased Cliff’s Place in Horton. Bill enjoyed cattle, working on the farm, flying in his younger years, and visiting with people. He will be remembered for taking an interest in everyone and always being able to make friends fast.

Living family members include his sister, Betty Emmel of Charles City; nieces and nephews, Charles Nauman of Bishop, Calif., Patti (Dave) Tibbitts of Charles City and Karl Emmel of Charles City; and great nieces and nephews, Brian Nauman of Bishop, Calif, Nathaniel King of Mason City, Lydia King of Charles City and Callista King of Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lucille Nauman; and a nephew, Michael Nauman.
