Dennis John Eckhoff
HUMBOLDT, IOWA - Dennis J. Eckhoff, 50, of Humboldt, died Friday (Oct. 6, 1995) at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital of an apparent heart attack.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Charles City, with the Rev. Douglas Haugen of St. John Lutheran Church, Humboldt, officiating. He will be assisted by the Rev. Dennis D. Niezwaag, senior pastor, in Charles City. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City with military honors conducted at graveside by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.
Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., Charles City; and from 9 a.m. until time of service Monday at the church.
Dennis John Eckhoff was born May 23, 1945, at Charles City, the son of John and Mary Aird Eckhoff. He attended and graduated from Greene High School. He attended Mason City Junior College and graduated from Westmar College and received a master's degree from Eastern University, Portales, N.M. He loved football and played in high school and college. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War and then was a highly successful football coach at West Union from 1974-1980. He also taught industrial arts at West Union. He suffered a heart attack in 1986 which forced him to quit coaching football. He was employed for the past seven years by the Gunder's Church Furniture of Dakota City, as a sales representative.
He was a member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
Living family members include his wife, Julie Eckhoff of Humboldt; a daughter, Kristy Eckhoff, Sioux Falls, S.D.; two sons, Brad Eckhoff, Marcus, and Tom Eckhoff, at home; his parents, John and Mary Eckhoff, Charles City; and a sister, Sandie Riden, Charles City.
