MARBLE ROCK - Weldon Sult, 84, of Marble Rock died Thursday (Feb. 4, 2010) at his home.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday (Feb. 8, 2010) at the Walter F. Bohl Community Center, 520 College St. in Marble Rock, with Pastor Judy Wooton, of the Marble Rock United Methodist Church, and Pastor Jason Boyd, chaplain for Iowa Hospice, officiating. Veteran's honors will be provided by American Legion Stroud-Gates Post No. 387. Inurnment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Marble Rock, at a later date. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Walter F. Bohl Community Center.

Those wishing to send a memorial in memory of Weldon may do so to the Weldon Sult Memorial Fund in care of the Marble Rock United Methodist Church, American Legion Post No. 387, Iowa Hospice, New Hampton or the Parkinson's Research Institute.

MARBLE ROCK, IOWA - Weldon Sult, 84, of Marble Rock died Thursday (Feb. 4, 2010) at his home.

Weldon Fox Sult was born Sept. 20, 1925, in Nashua, a son of Leslie 'Doc' and Eva 'Tony' (Fox) Sult. He received education in the Plainfield Schools and graduated from Marble Rock High School in 1944. He attended the University of Iowa for a while and graduated from the Des Moines Barber School. In 1944, Weldon entered the Army and served in Europe. He was injured during the Battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart.

On Nov. 25, 1948, Weldon was united in marriage with Lillian Marianne "Toodles" Thieman at the United Methodist Church in Marble Rock. To this union, three children were born.

After the service, he returned to Marble Rock where he owned and operated Sult's Barbershop for 47 years, retiring in 1994. Sult's Barbershop was the community center before Marble Rock had a community center. Men would meet there daily to keep each other informed and to share stories. Weldon was very well read and knowledgeable in a wide variety of subjects. Telling stories gave him great joy.

Weldon was a member of Marble Rock United Methodist Church. He was a charter member of the Marble Rock Lion's Club, serving 55 years and holding every office in the club. Weldon was an active member of the Marble Rock Community Betterment board. He was instrumental in bringing Friendship Acres and the doctor's office to town. He volunteered many years with the Friendship Acres, taking care of the facilities. As a member of the Marble Rock American Legion, he was a proponent of the new Marble Rock Veteran's Memorial.

Living family members include his daughter: Nancy (Larry) Glubka, Eugene, Ore.; two sons: Joel (Rosemary) Sult, Allison, and Jon (Rhonda) Sult, Marble Rock; seven grandchildren: Kelly (Adam) Peuse, Casey Sult, Kara (Adam) Halford, Jordan Glubka, Dustin Sult, Dena Sult and Lilly Ann Glubka. Extended family members include his sisters-in-law: Carol Thieman, Marble Rock, and Patricia Sult, Mission Viejo, Calif., and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Toodles, in 2007, three brothers: Klaydon 'Mort', Donald and Ronald 'Toby' Sult; and a brother-in-law, William Thieman.
