JOHN HARTWIG FUNERAL HELD

Foot Infection Fatal to Nora Springs Man After Three Months

NORA SPRINGS, IOWA — Services were held at the American Lutheran Church here Wednesday afternoon for John Carl Hartwig 84, who died Monday morning following an illness of three months with an infection of the foot, which ultimately was the cause of his death. His condition became serious last Thursday. The pastor, the Rev. Fred F Darnauer, had charge of the services. Mrs. Henry Buckmann sang and two solos, "Face to Face", "Jesus, Lover of My Soul." She was accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Oswald Mall.

Mr. Darnauer used as his text, Revelations 7:13-15. The theme concerned a future home in heaven, and he discussed the fact that mortals have come through many trials and tribulations, but those that remain faithful unto the end may glorify God forever.

Mrs. Fred Frudden and Mrs. George Mogk handled the flower arrangement. Burial was in Park Cemetery at Nora Springs. A short service was held at the Hartwig home at 1:30.

Mr. Hartwig was the second eldest of nine children of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Hartwig. He was born at Osage on Sept. 12, 1857.

Upon attaining manhood, he left his parental home and spent one year near Aberdeen, So. Dak., on a claim he had taken up there.

He was married to Ida Christine Frese at the Lutheran Church in Merrimac, Wis., on Oct. 26, 1886. After his marriage he purchased and located on the farm northeast of Nora Springs that is still known as the Hartwig home place. In 1921, he built a new home in Nora Springs and spent his retirement in it.

Mr. and Mrs. Hartwig had four children, two sons and two daughters, all of whom were present at their father's bedside during his last illness.

The survivors include his wife: the four children, Herbert, Lola, John, Jr., and Cora all of Nora Springs; five grandchildren, and one brother, William of Osage.

He was one of the founders of the American Lutheran Church in Nora Springs.
