R. J. Whitesell Dies at 66;
Rites Thursday

NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Roy J. Whitesell, 66, died Tuesday in the Cedar Valley Hospital, Charles City. He had been a patient there since last Friday morning.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. from the Christian Church, Nora Springs; with the pastor, Burnell Krager, officiating. Interment will be in Rock Grove Cemetery. H.D.S. post 449 of the American Legion, of which Mr. Whitesell was a charter member, will conduct military services, and Rock Lodge A.F. & A.M. will hold Masonic rites. The Sheckler Funeral Home is in charge.

A life-long resident of this community, Whitesell was born September 19, 1891, on the Whitesell farm near Nora Springs. He was one of three children of John W. and Flora A. Walker Whitesell.

After his graduation from the Nora Springs Seminary, he attended business college in Cedar Rapids and was later employed by the Associated Loan Companies of Cedar Rapids and Waterloo. He was employed by the First National Bank of Nora Springs two years.

After working in Idaho for the United States Reclamation Service for a year, he was drafted into military service, spending a year overseas.

He was marrried to Nellie M. Clifford. He farmed until his health failed about two years ago.

A brother, George, died in infancy.

Survivors include his son, Hugh Whitesell, three grandchildren, Sherri, Jon and Susan Whitesell; and one sister. Miss Nellie Whitesell, all of Nora Springs.
