CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Laura Scheidecker, 96, of Clarksville, formerly of Plainfield, died Thursday, September 13, 2007, at the Community Nursing Home in Clarksville.

Funeral services for Laura Scheidecker will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's United Church of Christ, Pleasant Hill, rural Nashua. Pastor Charles Dorsey will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will continue Monday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Laura Louise Koester Scheidecker was born December 22, 1910 in Butler County, the daughter of Herman and Caroline (Voights) Koester. She received her education in rural Butler County.

On December 28, 1944, she was united in marriage to Herman Scheidecker at Clarksville. They farmed all of their lives north of Clarksville. Herman died on January 11, 1995. Laura was a member of Saint John's United Church of Christ, the Women‚s Fellowship of the church, and the neighborhood birthday club. Laura's interests included gardening, sewing, quilting, embroidery and cooking. She always looked forward to spending time with her family.

Living family members include two children, Jean (Robert) Sable of Waverly and Michael (Barb Bentley) of Clarksville; two grandchildren, Jason (Sarah) Sable and Cara (Thomas) Johnson; a great grandson, Eliab Johnson; and a brother, Lawrence (Lois) Koester of Allison.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, Harold Koester; and a sister, Vera Litterer.
