CHARLES CITY, Iowa - Beth H. Bahlmann, 82, of 512 18th Ave. in Charles City, IA died Saturday (June 23, 2007) at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday (June 26, 2007) at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main St. in Charles City with the Rev. Dennis Niezwaag officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Nashua. The family will greet relatives and friends from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St. in Charles City. The visitation will continue on Tuesday at the church, one hour prior to Beth’s service. Those wishing to extend memorials or expressions of sympathy may direct them to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 2nd St. SE, Mason City, IA 50401. Beth Helen Bahlmann was born on April 26, 1925 in Ionia, IA, the daughter of Lee C. and Helen T. (Bullen) Beck. She attended and graduated Nashua high school, class of 1943. She furthered her education attending Wartburg College in Waverly, graduating and earning her teaching certificate. On June 21, 1947 Beth was united in marriage to Lester F. Bahlmann at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Nashua. She taught country school in Floyd County for a few years. Beth later worked in the hot lunch program, for the Nashua schools for fourteen years.

Beth was a wonderful homemaker. She will be best remembered for being generous, kind and loving. She was always on time everywhere she went and was a good neighbor. Beth lived an active life, enjoyed cooking, canning, baking all varieties of pies and was well known for her delectable piecrusts. In August of 1985 Lester and Beth moved from the Nashua area to Charles City.

Beth’s activities included membership at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and its church circle in Charles City and a former active member of the Rural Teachers Association. She treasured her leisure time whether it be gambling, playing cards especially games of “500” or spending time with her family. Beth sewed and stitched many quilts for her grandchildren. Her home, like her heart was open, and committed to loving and serving others first.

Beth is survived by her four children, Ronald (Kay) Bahlmann of Guttenberg, IA, Linda (Gary) Girkin of Charles City, IA, Dennis (Sharri) Bahlmann of Johnston, IA and Norma (Ron) Young of Fairfield, CT; ten grandchildren, Danielle Bahlmann, Derek Bahlmann, Megan Bahlmann, Drew (Autumn) Bahlmann, Heather Harris, Alex Young, Gabi Young, Scott (Kathy) Girkin, Richard (Denise) Girkin and Bill (Kim) Girkin, eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald Beck of Moline, Ill.; two sisters, Lois Eckenrod of Rudd, IA and June Franzen of Nashua, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Lester F. Bahlmann in August of 2001; one brother, Johnnie Beck and one sister, Velma Oleson.
