Edna K. Garner, 89, of Charles City, died Thursday, November 19, 2009, at the Elizabeth Martin Health Care Center, Western Home Communities in Cedar Falls.

Pastor Margaret Hutchens of the First Christian Church and Pastor Phil Corr of the First Congregational Church will officiate. Burial will be in Harlington Municipal Cemetery, Waverly.

Edna Kathleen See was born February 18, 1920, in Waverly, the daughter of Charles and Catherine (Gram) See. In 1938, she graduated from the Waverly High School and later attended Wartburg College for one year. On November 15, 1941, she was united in marriage to Clayton Garner. She was employed for 18 years as a secretary at the Washington Elementary School in Charles City. Edna served as the organist at the First Christian Church since 1970. She was a member of the First Congregational Church where she served on many church groups and the music committee. Edna was also very active in the American Legion Auxiliary #174, Heritage Club, Senior Citizens Center, B-Sharp Combo and was a Foster Grandparent since 1995. Her interests included word games, volunteering, music for others, elementary children, and fun times with her grandchildren.

Living family members include her three children, Catherine (Leonard) Upham of Cedar Falls, John (Connie) Garner of Sun Prairie, Wis. and Margaret (James) Dunston, Jr. of Clarksville; four grandchildren, Laura Sandham, David (Elsa) Upham, John (Maria) Piazza and Kyle Garner; one great granddaughter, Louisa Robb-Upham; and a sister, Myrna Matheson of Duluth, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, Home Health Care, or Comprehensive Systems.
