NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Tammy Ann Haxton, 49, of 24617 260th St., Nora Springs, died Tuesday (Nov. 17, 2009) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. Tammy gave in death as she gave in life. Tammy was an organ and tissue donor.

Memorial mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Kenneth Gehling officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later time in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, Nora Spring, with a scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m. and then one hour before the service on Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Tammy Haxton Memorial Fund.

Tammy was born on January 22, 1960, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Natalie (Fitzgerald) French. At the age of six she and her family moved to California. In 1976 they moved to Nora Springs, where she graduated from high school in 1978. She then attended North Iowa Area Community College.

Tammy worked at Minnesota Rubber for more than 19 years where she was a supervisor. In 1999, she opened her own business in Nora Springs, "The Sign Shop".

Tammy married Tim Haxton in October 2007.

Tammy enjoyed her horses, attending and watching her daughters compete in barrel racing, watching her nephew figure eight race, NASCAR and listening to music.

She was a very hard working, positive, big hearted, creative, fun loving wife, mom and grandma. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City.

She is survived by her husband, Tim Haxton, of Nora Springs; daughters, Holly Portis-DeVries (Josh Borchardt) and Megan Portis (Parker Boyd), of Nora Springs; stepdaughters, Erin (David) Grimm of Wesley and Katie Haxton of Mason City; grandson, Dillon DeVries, of Nora Springs; her mother, Nicki French, of Nora Springs; two sisters, Kerry (Terry) Johnson of Rockford and Angie Creighton of Clear Lake; special nephew and nieces, Justin Severe of Woodward and Lindsey, Corey, Caley and Wesley Johnson, of Rockford; and other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond John French; and a son, John Raymond Portis.
