Lester H. Fredrick, 89, of Charles City, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

A funeral service will be held Monday, Nov. 16, at 11 a.m. at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main Street in Charles City with Rev. David Werges officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Charles City. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Nov. 15 from 4-8 pm at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St. in Charles City, and again one hour prior to the service at the church. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Lester was born on Sept. 27, 1920, in Charles City, the son of Herman and Emma (Pfefferkorn) Fredrick. He lived his entire life in Charles City. He farmed his family farm for over 50 years, retiring in 1985. He also worked in maintenance at the hospital for 13 years. Lester was united in marriage to Helen Young on June 26, 1942.

Lester was involved with many groups. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, the Conservation Commission, the Country School Board, Extension Council, and he was a 4-H leader and a Township Trustee. Lester was also a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church where he was a member of the Church Council and was an usher. Lester enjoyed socializing with friends and having a good time. He loved dancing and listening to music. Lester played cards with the same group of people for 30 years. You would also have to admire his collection of toy tractors, numbering over 800! Lester also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Most important to him was his family and he never forgot their birthdays or anniversaries.

Those left to honor his memory include: daughter Sara and her husband, Ernie Uetz; daughter Karol and husband John Herron; son Steve and wife Bev Fredrick; grandchildren: Kimberly Olson, Douglas and his wife, Lynette Uetz, Kevin and his wife Dani Uetz, Anthony Herron, Angela Moody, Joel Fredrick and Linda Kuykendall; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Marion Miller; and many nieces, nephews and good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen in 1982; grandson Joseph Herron; and sisters Leone Mitchell and Esther Erickson.
