Charles City, IowaMildred “Mid” Mead, 90, of Charles City, died Saturday, October 17, 2009, at her home.
Mildred Lorraine Mead was born April 9, 1919, at Charles City, the daughter of Andrew and Mary (Sauer) Miller. She graduated from the Charles City High School.
On June 22, 1940, she was united in marriage to Harold Mead at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They lived all their lives in Charles City. Mid was a homemaker and devoted mother. She was an 80 year member of the First Baptist Church, where she was active in the Armstrong Circle, American Baptist Women and enjoyed singing with the praise team and choir. Other memberships included the Moose Lodge, American Legion Auxiliary and the Women’s Hospital Auxiliary where she faithfully volunteered as a “pink lady” for many years. Mid will be remembered as one who always gave of herself and time to help others.
Living family members include two children, Beverly Anderson of Knoxville, Tenn. and Jerry Mead of Charles City and Judy Mead of Kansas City, Mo; five grandchildren, Lori (Dale) Montgomery, Wendi Rague, Beau Christopher (Ann) Mead, Tatum Mead and Brody Mead; three great grandchildren, Madison Montgomery, Zach Rague and Alaina Ann Mead; a brother, Andrew (Mavis) Miller, Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on January 3, 2008; a son-in-law, Tom Anderson in 2003; and four sisters, Emma Moon, Elsie Miller, Viola Rothfuss and Blanche Meyers.
