Arthur “Art” Thoe, 84, of Allen, Texas, and formerly of Charles City, Iowa, died on Saturday, September 19, 2009, at Presbyterian Hospital of Allen in Allen.

Funeral services for Art Thoe will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastors David Werges and Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City. Military honors will be conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Visitation will continue Friday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Arthur Morris Thoe was born April 14, 1925, in Mower County, Minn., the son of Selmer and Regina (Bolstad) Thoe. He received his education at Rockdale, Minn. Art proudly served in the United States Army during World War II having been stationed in Europe, France and Germany.

On May 16, 1953, he was united in marriage to Doris Schwartz at Stewartville, Minn. In 1948 they moved to Charles City where Art worked for the Oliver Corporation, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the United Auto Workers.

Living family members include a daughter, Toni (Ron) Yantzi of Allen, Texas; two grandchildren, Daniel and Sarah Fischer; a brother, Donald (Aleta) Thoe of Lake City, Minn.; and two sisters, Ruth Maasch of Rochester, Minn. and Lois (John) Wilder of Phoenix, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert Alan Thoe; three brothers; and two sisters.
