FLOYD, IOWA -- Thelma Gaston, 92, of Floyd, died Monday, June 22, 2009, at her son’s home in Floyd.
Funeral services for Thelma Gaston will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church. Pastor Ruth Yeaton will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home, in Charles City, from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation will continue Thursday at the church an hour prior to the service.
Thelma Grace Morris Gaston was born December 13, 1916, in Mercer County, Missouri, the daughter of Joseph and Mabel (Smothers) Morris. She graduated from Princeton High School in Princeton, Missouri and from William Jewel College in 1937.
On August 15, 1943, she was united in marriage to Lyle Gaston at Princeton. They moved to the Floyd area where they were engaged in farming. Thelma taught school in Iowa for 25 years. She also volunteered to do tax preparation at the Charles City Senior Citizens Center. Thelma was a member of the First Baptist Church and Iowa Retired Teachers Association. Her interests included vegetable and flower gardening and enjoying the out of doors. Thelma looked forward to spending time with her family and sharing many family dinners with them.
Living family members include two sons, Lyle (Sam) Gaston of Floyd and Wally (Kathy) Gaston of Custer, S.D.; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on May 8, 2001; and a brother.
