NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Ida C. Ryner, 89, of 516 North Hawkeye, died Tuesday (April 2, 1996) at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital, Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Rock Creek Lutheran Church, rural Osage, with the Rev. Roger W. Hoppenworth officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Rudd.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 North Hawkeye, Nora Springs, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Ida Christine Hulberg Ryner was born on Feb.17, 1907, in Kanawha, to John and Lena (Lee) Hulberg.

Ida was baptized and confirmed in the Kanawha Lutheran Church. She grew up near Kanawha and graduated from Kanawha High School. After attending St. Olaf College and Iowa State Teachers College, she taught in the elementary grades for 11 years in Lamoille, Calender and Rudd. After her marriage she did some substitute teaching in the Rudd school system.

On Dec. 28, 1938, she was married to Ernest S. Ryner of Rudd. They lived and farmed near Rudd for 33 years before moving to Nora Springs where she resided until December 1995. She currently was a resident of Faith Home, Osage.

Her church was an important part of her life. She was a member of Rock Creek Lutheran Church for over 55 years where she was active throughout the years in RCCW and her circle. She was currently a member of the Mary Circle. In the past she had been a member of the choir and worked with the Sunday school.

Ida's friends and neighbors were a special part of her life. Over 50 years ago she and several of her neighbors began their Sewing Circle. This group got together to help the hostess with tasks such as darning and cleaning while enjoying each other's company. Ida corresponded with several former teacher friends, other friends, and her relatives. She never received a letter she didn't answer.

She and Ernie were members of three different 500 card clubs. She continued to enjoy playing card games with friends and family.

For several years her main hobby was doing ceramics with many friends. She always enjoyed sewing and handwork and learned the Norwegian art of hardanger creating many lovely keepsakes for family and friends. The care of her home, garden and flowers were always important to her.

She is survived by her husband, Ernest Ryner, of Faith Lutheran Home, Osage; one son, John Ryner, and his wife, Susan, Rudd; one daughter, Leanne Oldsen, and her husband, Carl, Worthington, Ohio; one brother, Ardo Hulberg, and his wife, Mildred, Sauk City, Wis.; four grandchildren, Eric Ward, Columbus, Ohio; Kristin Ward, Ithaca, N.Y.; Michelle Holst and her husband, Jason, Ankeny, and Jayson Ryner, Decorah; 18 nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one son-in-law, Tim Ward.
