Eva Leta Van Raden was born March 27, 1916, in Bennezette Township, Butler County, the youngest of five children to Manno and Amy (Rottink) Van Raden and died Sunday (Sept. 15, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City, of a heart ailment.
She received her education in the rural Butler County schools near Greene.
She was united in marriage to Roy Abel Schrage at the Presbyterian Manse in Greene on Christmas Day 1935. To this union was born one daughter, Karen.
Roy and Eva started farming in the Greene area, and for the past 50 years, farmed on the present location south of Marble Rock.
Eva was actively engaged in helping with the farm work until her health began to fail her. She had been confined to a wheelchair for the past five years, but always kept her sense of humor and tried to help her husband with the household chores and do what she could.
She had a special talent in sewing, making many of her own clothes.
She enjoyed her life on the farm, and working with the farm animals and caring for the dogs who came along and stayed.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greene and a former member of the U.P.W.
Living family members include her husband, Roy, of Marble Rock; her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Edward Keith of Marble Rock; and two grandchildren, Brian Keith and Daphne Keith, both of Marble Rock.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Pearl Hammel and Mabel Kielsmeier; and two brothers, Irving and Vern Van Raden.
Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Eva Schrage Memorial Fund in care of the family.
