CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Joanne Carpenter, 42, 1995 Noble Ave., died Saturday (Oct. 28, 1995) at University Hospitals, Iowa City, of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home with the Rev. Blair Rohde-Frank of West St. Charles United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the West St. Charles Cemetery.

Friends may call from 12:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home, and visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.

Joanne Elizabeth Frankenfield Carpenter was born Oct. 30, 1952, in Charles City, a daughter of Harley Frankenfield and Lois (nee) Heitz Frankenfield. She graduated from Charles City High School and received a bachelor of arts degree in home economics and journalism from Iowa State University, Ames.

On Aug. 11, 1973, she and Guy Carpenter were married on the farm where she grew up and where they lived at the time of her death.

She was employed by The Oskaloosa Herald as a reporter and editor for eight years, The Charles City Press for two years and by The Mason City Globe-Gazette for seven years. She also wrote special interest and family articles for The Des Moines Register.

She was a member of the West St. Charles United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher, and also taught Bible school. She was a 4-H committee member, was a former member of the Heart to Home Hospice Board and was serving as president of the Charles City Branch of the American Association of University Women where she held many offices for the past 20 years. She was employed by the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in personnel and public relations at the time of her death.

Survivors include her husband, Guy, of Charles City; one daughter, Dia, in eighth grade; one son, Kyle, in sixth grade; her stepmother, Betty Frankenfield of Charles City; two sisters, Kathryn (Mrs. Thomas) Whitson of McClelland and Janet (Mrs. Arthur) Kramer of Birmingham, Ala.; one brother, William, of Baltimore, Md.; three stepbrothers, Ronald LaCoste of Rockford, Richard LaCoste of Mason City and Chad LaCoste of Floyd; and three stepsisters, Marilyn (Mrs. Tom) Grygo of Nekoosa, Wis., Patricia (Mrs. Tim) Tuberty of Massillon, Ohio, and Polly Schmidt of Nora Springs.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
