Amil M. Fisher Jr., 93, of Charles City, died Wednesday evening, June 17, 2009, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
Pastor Dennis Niezwaag of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate. Military Honors will be conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.
Amil Melvin Fisher Jr. was born March 5, 1916, at Charles City, the son of Emil and Fannie (Lines) Fisher Sr. He graduated from the Charles City High School. On November 3, 1941, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Albrecht at Osage. He served in the United States Navy from 1938 to 1945. Amil retired from the United States Post Office after 30 years as a rural mail carrier in St. Ansgar. He was a member of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. His interests included carpentry work, helping his family and being a caregiver to his wife.
Living family members include his wife, Dorothy Fisher of Charles City; two children, Gary (Ann) Fisher of Charles City and daughter, Susan Fisher of Burnsville, Minn.; six grandchildren, Cherie (Dennis) Walker, Tom Fisher, Stephen (Joan Perko) Fisher, James (Janee’) Fisher, Jason (Christina) Rost and Jennifer (Eddie) Osmancevic; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Fisher; and sister, Velma Murphy.
