Clair A. Nehls, 85, of Mason City and formerly of Charles City, died Tuesday evening, June 2, 2009, at the Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Monsignor Stanley J. Hayek will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City. Military honors will be conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Clair Arthur Nehls was born May 31, 1924, at Marble Rock, the son of Arthur and Anna (Reis) Nehls. He graduated from the Floyd High School. After high school, Clair served two and one half years in the United States Navy in the South Pacific. On October 5, 1946, he was united in marriage to LaDonna Mae Simerson at Chicago, Ill. Clair was employed for 34 ½ years at White Farm. In his earlier years Clair coached Little League Baseball in Charles City. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. His interests included fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.

Living family members include his 11 children, David (Charlotte) Nehls of Ionia, Douglas Nehls of West Des Moines, Mary (Gary) Druehl of Colwell, Karen (Bob) Roethler of Charles City, Diana (Dean) Bucknell of Charles City, Susan (Steve) Redmond of Charles City, Daniel “Pete” Nehls of Charles City, Christina (Tony) Byers of Colwell, Catherine (Randy) Nibaur of Austin, Minn., Theresa (David) Turpen of Webster City and Dale Nehls of Mason City; many grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Roxanne Nehls of Wellsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Dennis Nehls; granddaughter, Lisa Marie Nehls; grandson, Scott Druehl; two sisters and two brothers.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 2nd St. S.E. Mason City, IA 50401.
