MARBLE ROCK, IOWA - Robert L. Staudt, 69, of 309 N. Main St. died Monday (March 18, 2002) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Roseville, rural Marble Rock, with Monsignor Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with graveside military rites by the Stroud-Gates Post 387 American Legion of Marble Rock.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the parish hall with an 8 p.m. rosary conducted by the Rosary Society. Visitation will also be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at the parish hall with a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. followed by a rosary. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday.

Memorials may be directed to the family, P.O. Box 166, Marble Rock, IA 50653-0166.

MARBLE ROCK, IOWA - Funeral services for Robert Louis Staudt, 69, of 304 N. Robert Louis Staudt was born July 12, 1932, in Union Township, Floyd County, son of Louis C. and Barbara M. (Merfeld) Staudt, and died on Monday (March 18, 2002) at his residence in Marble Rock.

He received his education at St. Mary's School in Roseville and graduated from the Marble Rock High School in 1950. He became employed at Oliver Tractor Company in Charles City. On Sept. 9, 1952, he was inducted into the U.S. Army, serving with the 519th MP Company, 8th Army, in Korea. During that time he took part in the "Big Switch" prisoner exchange in Korea. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 18, 1954.

He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Mary Theis on October 2, 1954, at St. Boniface Catholic Church at Ionia. To this union, seven children were born.

They farmed in the rural Marble Rock area until 1982. In 1958, he became an insurance agent and director for the Floyd County Mutual Insurance Company, where he remained until the time of his death. He was a hail adjuster for Grinnell Mutual Insurance Company for 20 years. He was a consistent top-25 agent for the Square Deal Insurance Company.

He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church at Roseville, a member of Stroud-Gates Post 387 American Legion of Marble Rock and the Marble Rock Lions Club and former member of the Moose and Elks lodges.

Bob enjoyed his annual pilgrimage to Las Vegas and throughout the year visited local casinos. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye, Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan. As a young man, he played fast-pitch baseball and softball and in later years, enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in their sporting activities. He enjoyed Baseball Trivia.

Survivors include his wife, Betty, of Marble Rock; four daughters and their husbands, Debra and David Vermillion of Dale City, Va., Becky and John Shook of Rockford, Vicky and Don Gallagher of Orlando, Fla., and Sandy and John Pieper of Ankeny; three sons and their wives, Gary and Julie Staudt of Iowa City, Tim and Jeanne Staudt of Rockford and Bill and Carmen Staudt of Rockford; 16 grandchildren, Emily and Elizabeth Vermillion, Aaron, Andrew and Amanda Staudt, Maria, Barbara and Sabrina Staudt, Alisha and Nathaniel Staudt, Nicole, Tony, Adam and Sara Shook, and Will and Lucas Pieper; one brother, Russell, and his wife, Betty Jo Staudt, of Marble Rock; three aunts, Agatha Krambeer and Gila Merfeld, both of Greene, and Audrey Merfeld of Marble Rock; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Rose Marie Cousins.
