HELEN POOLEY - FORMER FLOYD COUNTY RESIDENT

GREENE, IOWA - Funeral services for Helen Pooley, 89, of 309 N. Fourth St., will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Greene with Pastor Paul Uzel officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the church and will continue one hour before services Wednesday. Reid's Funeral Chapel, Greene, is in charge of arrangements.

Helen Augusta Borchard was born Dec. 7, 1912, west of Rockford, a daughter of Richard H. and Matha M. (Zitzow) Borchard, and died Friday, March 15, 2002, at the Nora Springs Care Center after a brief illness.

At the age of three her family moved west of Marble Rock where she later attended Scott Center School, and in order to attend high school in Marble Rock, she and a friend worked for room and board so they could stay in town during the winter months.

After her completion of high school, she worked for Black's Department Store in Waterloo.

On Oct. 14, 1934, she was united in marriage to S. Dwight Pooley at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Helen was bookkeeper for the S. D. Pooley Lumber Company in Greene for 37 years working until shortly before her death.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women, Good Cheer Circle, and the Greene Women's Club.

Living family members include her children and their spouses, Priscilla and Earl Landers of Greene, Richard and Janice Pooley of Norristown, Pa., Alan and Sandra of Apple Valley, Minn., and Philip and Mary Ann of Hurst, Texas; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Lynn and Don Swanson, Lisa Pooley, Dyanna Pooley, Justin and Lisa Pooley, Brandon and Trudy Landers, Brendt and Karen Landers, and Barry Landers and his friend, Dephne; and eight great-grandchildren, Chemiere Verhey, Kelsey Swanson, Tyler Landers, Taylor Landers, Trevor Landers, Brylee Landers, Owen Landers, and Cooper Landers; two sisters, Carol and her husband, Richard Rohwedder of Greene and Irene Kiehn of Fort Lupton, Colo.; and a brother, William Borchard of Marble Rock.

She was preceded in death by her husband, S. Dwight Pooley; one sister, Catherine Miller; two brothers, John Borchard and his twin brother, Charles Borchard, who died in infancy; and a grandson, Danny J. Landers.
