MARBLE ROCK, IOWA - Roger Ruhl Duryee, 29, of Marble Rock died on Tuesday (March 17, 2009) at his home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, at the United Methodist Church, Rockwell, with Pastor Ken Livingston officiating. Cremation will follow services.

Visitation will be at the church one hour before service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Roger R. Duryee Memorial Fund in care of the family, Box 162, Marble Rock, IA, 50653-0162.

Roger Ruhl Duryee was born August 27, 1979, at Holy Family Hospital in Esterville, Emmet County, the son of Oscar and Rose Romer. He was adopted at the age of 7 years by his Uncle and Aunt: Arnold and Louise Duryee. He died Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at his home in Marble Rock.

He grew up in Marble Rock and attended the Christian Acadamy in Charles City and the RRMR schools.

He was an employee of Sherman Nurseries for the past eight years. Roger was a fanatic sports fan who enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings football and the LA Lakers basketball. As a youth, he enjoyed playing basketball at school and at home in the backyard.

Roger had a charismatic smile and was one who loved life and what it had to offer. He was a saved child of God at the age of 9 at the First Baptist Church at Greene.

He is survived by his loving parents, Arnold and Louise Duryee of Marble Rock, his birth mother: Rose Romer, his siblings: Mike (Becky) Romer of Sheldon, Todd (Suzy) Duryee of Marble Rock, Troy (Becky) Duryee of Marble Rock, Luanne (Jim) Tegtmeier of Marble Rock, Walter (Sharon) Duryee of Baton Rouge, LA, Deb Duryee of Sheldon, Dale (Samantha) Duryee of Charles City, Ervin Duryee of Cedar Rapids and Chris Duryee of Marble Rock; his paternal grandmother: Garnet Duryee of Iowa Falls. He is also survived by several aunts and uncles; and numerous neices and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his birth father: Oscar Romer Jr. and a brother, Larry Romer.
