DIED IN CHARLES CITY, IOWA

GREENE, IOWA - Funeral services for Ella Ramker, 84, of 507 North Bluff St., Greene will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Greene, with the Rev. Monsignor Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary Cemetery in Greene.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, March 16, 2009, at Reid's Funeral Chapel, 519 North First Street, Greene, where there will be a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Tuesday at the church one hour before services.

Ella Mehmen was born on March 19, 1924 in Clarksville, Butler County, a daughter of William and Ella (Lursen) Mehmen, and died on Friday, Mach 13, 2009, at the Eleventh Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City. She received her education in the Clarksville schools.

She was united in marriage to Bernard LeRoy Ramker on Aug. 21, 1943, at Fort Smith, Ark. They made their home in the Greene area, where she was employed by the Greene Caf� for many years. On Sept. 11, 1967, she began working at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City, where she remained until her retirement on Feb. 15, 1987.

Following her retirement, she helped Bernard with his mowing and painting in the Greene area. She donated her time working at St. Mary Catholic Church. She enjoyed going for walks, playing cards and loved to dance. She enjoyed hosting the grandchildren's annual card party at her home.

Throughout the summer, the grandchildren would come to visit and hated to go home when it was time to do so. She enjoyed cooking and will be remembered for her homemade pies and canned pickles.

Living family members include, a daughter, Rose (Steve) Edwards of Charles City; a son, Darwin (Connie) Ramker of Waverly; six grandchildren, Brian (Amy) Ramker, Jane (Mike) Kayser, Michael Ramker, Tony (Melissa) Edwards, Tami (Dan) Cline, Traci (Nathan) Bartels; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard, on Aug. 11, 1999, her parents, five sisters and five brothers.
