ROCKFORD, IOWA - Alonzo "Lonnie" Lahmon, 83, died Friday (Dec. 13, 1996) at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Schumburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Rosemary Rohde-Frank of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Rock Grove Cemetery, rural Nora Springs.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home.

ROCKFORD, IOWA - Alonzo "Lonnie" Lahmon, 83, 103 First Ave. S.E., Rockford, and formerly of rural Greene, rural Clarksville, Waterloo, at Nora Springs, died Friday (Dec. 13, 1996) at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City, following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Schumburg Funeral Home, 302 W. Main St., Rockford, with the Rev. Rosemary Rohde-Frank of the First United Methodist Church, Rockford, officating. Burial will be in the Rock Grove Cemetery, rural Nora Springs. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Alonzo "Lonnie" Lahmon was born March 24, 1913, rural Greene. He was raised in the rural Greene and Clarksville areas. Following his education in a country school house, he began a dairy farm operation. He left the farm to enter the armed forces during World War II. He served in the 241st Division in California.

He returned to Iowa and settled in the Waterloo area, where he opened Lahmon's Garage on Logan Avenue. He closed the garage to return to dairy farming.

Following his retirement, he settled in Rockford for about 10 years. He moved to the Nora Springs Care Center, and just recently to the Chautauqua Home in Charles City.

Mr. Lahmon was a knowledgable mechanic, preferring to work on General Motors cars and International farm equipment.

He was an avid river and lake fisherman, although he never liked to eat fish.

Living family members include two brothers, Louis Lahmon of Osakis, Minn., and Leonard Lahmon of New Hartford; and a sister, Mary Dunfee of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Lyle, Leon, Leslie and Leo Lahmon; and two sisters, Lillian Eckbrod and Leola Chamberlain.
