CHARLES CITY, IOWA — Neil K. Griffin, 65, of 2623 Wandering Acres Drive, Charles City, died Saturday afternoon (Sept. 3, 2005) at his home in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main St. in Charles City, with the Rev. Dennis Niezwaag and the Rev. David Werges officiating. Interment will take place in the Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St. in Charles City. Visitation will continue Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Those wishing to extend memorials or expressions of sympathy may direct them to the family, in care of Neil’s wife, Marianne P. Griffin, 2623 Wandering Acres Drive, Charles City, IA 50616.

Neil Kelsey Griffin was born December 21, 1939, in Holland, Ohio, to George and Leone (Albon) Griffin Sr. He attended school in Ohio and graduated from high school in 1957. He furthered his education as an instructor at the Police Academy in Des Moines, Iowa.

On December 31, 1983, Neil was united in marriage to Marianne P. Geremia in Grace Episcopal Church at Charles City. Neil had made his home in Charles City for the last 35 years. Neil had been employed as a trooper with the Iowa State Patrol in law enforcement, retiring in 1986 with 26 years of service.

Neil took great pleasure and pride in providing for his family. He will be best remembered by his family as being a kind and gentle man, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and having a wonderful and unique sense of humor.

Some of Neil’s interests, passions and leisure activities included his love for flying ultra-light airplanes, racing motorcycles, fishing, camping and being afforded the opportunity of extensive travel to such places as Nova Scotia, Cape Cod and all across the United States. Neil will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in Neil’s life are his loving and devoted wife, Marianne Griffin, of Charles City; his father, George Griffin Sr. of Maquoketa, Iowa; his children: Brad Riedemann of Charleston, Ill., Andrea Brown of Burnsville, Minn., Robbin Schmitt of Farmington, Minn., Amy Lines of Marble Rock, and Matt Griffin of Charles City; his 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and four sisters, Mara, Lisa, Dawn and Jan.

Neil was preceded in death by his mother, Leone, and one brother, George Griffin Jr.
