Dean Claire Tweed

MARBLE ROCK, IOWA — Funeral service for Dean Claire Tweed, 77, of 403 Beelar St., Marble Rock, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Methodist Church in Marble Rock with Pastor Ken Kent officiating and burial in the Hillside Cemetery in Marble Rock.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Marble Rock. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services.

Dean Tweed was born Nov. 8, 1927, on a farm near Fertile in Worth County, a son of Harry "Joe" Joseph and Opal (Hovland) Tweed, and died Saturday (July 23, 2005) at his home in Marble Rock after a short battle with cancer.

He received his education in Lake Mills and served in the Army in World War II.

On Feb. 19, 1950, he was united in marriage to Iris Judene Heyer in Woden. To this union, six children were born.

He was a 50-year member of the United Methodist Church in Marble Rock.

They lived in Hampton, Greene and then Marble Rock. Many hours were spent in the Tweedybird camper school bus as the family was growing up. During this time, Dean worked for Klassi Hardware repairing TVs and radios. He later worked with Klassi Ford Motor, where one of his specialties was keeping the 1957 through 1959 Ford Skyliner retractable hardtop convertibles working smoothly.

Dean was self-employed as a "jack of all trades and master of many." Electrician, mechanic, carpentry and plumbing were a few of his talents. Then he went into business in Marble Rock as Dean's Radio & TV, selling new televisions and home repair of TVs and radios. He was remembered for bringing a TV to the Marble Rock School so the students could watch John Glenn orbit the earth. He was a good communicator and always had a story to tell to anyone that would listen.

Dean also remodeled homes and farm buildings, and kept several Marble Rock and Dougherty farmers' operations running smoothly with his innovative repairs. He retired in 1989 after a fall in Lake Mills that limited his physical abilities.

Dean and Iris also ran the Laundry of ID in Marble Rock until April 2005, when he was diagnosed with cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Iris, of Marble Rock; two sons, Randy Tweed of Houston, Texas, and Terry (Sue) Tweed of Woden; two daughters, Coralyn (Tom) Engels and LeAnn (Marty) Ginther of Rockford; son-in-law, Richard and his wife, Barb, Weiner of Nora Springs and daughter-in-law, Cyndy and her husband, Vernon Rankin, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; three sisters, Yvonne Wiele and Dorothy (Hartley) Alden of Dougherty, Bonnie DeWall of Mason City; three brothers, Ray (Barb) Tweed of Lake Mills, Roger (Lib) Tweed of Cold Springs, Minn., and Michael (Jeanine) Tweed of Thompson; and brother-in-law, Russell and his wife, Kay Heyer, of McWonago, Wis.; 23 grandchildren: Scott Tweed, Michelle (Jeremy) Michels, Michael (Ashley) Tweed, Stephanie Tweed, Dustin, Robert and Kelli Jo Weiner, Samuel Booth, Charlie Weiner, Christina, Joseph, Kathy, Anthony, Elizabeth and Nathaniel Engels, Colter, Cory and Larissa Ginther, Tera, Jennifer, Jamie, Chelsea and Matthew Tweed; and four great-grandchildren: Jonathan Mechels, Brayden Tweed, Caedmon Mechels and Sara Tweed; and his faithful dog, Prince.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Judene Kay (Tweed) Weiner, 1988, wife of Richard Weiner; son: Gary Lynn Tweed, 1993, husband of Cyndy Rankin; two brothers, DeWard and Don Tweed; and two sisters, Leona Thompson and Gayle Bolton.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Dean Tweed Memorial Fund in care of the family.
