CHARLES CITY, IOWA — June Irene Scherb, 88, Charles City, died Thursday (July 21, 2005) at her home in Charles City. June previously lived in the Scarville area for 44 years.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville with the Rev. Randy Baldwin officiating. Burial will take place at Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery in Kiester, Minn.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today at Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills and again one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
June Irene Bishop was born June 11, 1917, in Cerro Gordo County, on the home place near Nora Springs. She was the first of three daughters to parents, Delia (Arzberger) and Blaine Bishop. June grew up in the Nora Springs and Plymouth areas, graduating as valedictorian of her class in 1944 at Plymouth. In her early years, she taught school at Grafton, Dayton, Fayette and other schools.
June married Walter Thomas Scherb on Aug. 17, 1947, in Mason City. June and Walter moved to the farm in Scarville in 1952, where she resided until 1996, at which time she moved to Rockford and later to Charles City to be near her daughter.
June and Walter were blessed with three children: Yolanda, Dwayne and Greg. After moving from the farm, June enjoyed visiting with her apartment neighbors, going to the Rockford Senior Center, playing cards and traveling. She enjoyed staying informed by reading several newspapers and completing many crewel needlework pieces. She was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville.
June is survived by her daughter, Yolanda (Paul) Van Ausdall of Charles City; sons, Dwayne (Tina) Scherb of Rolling Prairie, Ind., and Greg (Rita) Scherb of Scarville; grandchildren, Christopher Scherb, Marty, Bret and Scott Van Ausdall, and Danielle and Thomas Scherb; sisters, Wanda Laine and Joyce Calgaard; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, in 1989; her parents; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
