RUDD, IOWA — Lolabelle A. Newton, 94, formerly of Rudd, died Thursday (April 14, 2005) at the Palms of Sebring Nursing and Rehab Center.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Rudd United Methodist Church, 611 6th St., Rudd, with the Rev. Jim Turner officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Rudd.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye St., Nora Springs.

EAST MOLINE, ILLINOIS — Lolabelle A. Newton, 94, formerly of Rudd, Floyd county, Iowa, died on Thursday (April 14, 2005) at Palms of Sebring Nursing and Rehab Center in Sebring, Florida.

Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, 611 Sixth St., Rudd, Iowa, with the Rev. Jim Turner officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Rudd, Iowa.

Visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye St., Nora Springs.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be directed to Rudd United Methodist Church or to the Lolabelle A. Newton Memorial Fund.

Lolabelle was born Dec. 15, 1910, the oldest daughter of John and Lena Pennell. She graduated from Rudd High School and earned a two-year teaching certificate from the former State Teachers College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Lolabelle taught school in Frederica, Iowa, until her marriage to Lowell Newton on Sept. 30, 1933. They lived most of their married life in Rudd, Iowa. Lolabelle was a food supervisor for the lunch program at the Rudd School for over 20 years until her retirement.

After the death of her husband in July 1982, she spent her winters with her son and family in Illinois. In 2003, Lolabelle suffered from a serious heart attack; she then made her residences in Florida and Illinois with her son, Doyle, and his wife.

Lolabelle was very active in the Rudd community. She was an active member of Rudd United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of the choir and the UMW. Lolabelle was also an active member of the Rudd Senior Citizens.

Lolabelle is survived by her four sons: Doyle (Dorothy) Newton, of East Moline Ill., and Sebring Fla., Myron (Grace) Newton, of Fredericksburg, Va., Charles (Janice) Newton, of Sebring, Fla., and Leroy (Carol) Newton, of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, four step grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 12 step great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and one step great-great grandchild; one sister, Norma Cook, of Kendall, Mich.; and one brother, Donald (Ginny) Helmers, of Austin, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Agnes Helmers, of Dewar, Iowa, Frances Helmers, of Faribault, Minn.; one brother-in-law, William Miller, of Lebanon, Tenn.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, step father, one sister, two brothers, one granddaughter, two grandsons, one brother-in-law and one sister-in-law.
