NORA SPRINGS, IOWA — James "Jim" M. Montag, 87, of 907 Riverview Drive, Nora Springs, died Wednesday (March 16, 2005) at his home in Nora Springs.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church, 507 First Ave. N.W. in Rockford. A committal service will be 3 p.m. in the West Bend Cemetery in West Bend.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rockford.

NORA SPRINGS, IOWA — James M. "Jim" Montag, 87, of 907 Riverview Drive, Nora Springs, died Wednesday, (March 16, 2005) at his home in Nora Springs.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church, 507 First Avenue N.W. in Rockford, with Father Craig E. Steimel and Monsignor Walter Brunken officiating. A committal service will be at 3 p.m. in West Bend Cemetery in West Bend with Rev. Ed Tiedeman officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rockford, and an hour prior to the service on Saturday. A scriptural wake service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the church.

James "Jim" Marvin Montag was born Jan. 7, 1918, in West Bend. He is the son of Joseph and Francis (Fogarty) Montag. James graduated from West Bend High School. After high school, James enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served during World War II.

On Feb. 7, 1948, James was united in marriage to Dorothy Reiman at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Milford. They farmed in the West Bend and Nora Springs areas.

James was a longtime member of Holy Name Parish in Rockford. He also served on the board of directors for the Rudd Co-op, was a 4-H leader and a member of the Cedar Valley Engine Club. James enjoyed farming, woodworking, reading, collecting and traveling.

James is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy, Nora Springs; seven children: Steve (Leona) Montag, Nora Springs, Doris Montag, Iowa City, Celine (Gary) Horn, Minneapolis, Minn., Gwen (Keith Less) Montag, Coralville, Galen (Laura) Montag, Nora Springs, Greta (Brian) Ivanovic, Fort Wayne, Ind., and Leon (Pam) Montag, Finley, N.D. Also left to cherish his memory are his fifteen grandchildren: Calista (George) Hospodarsky, Lynn Montag, Michael and Matthew Haywood, Rachel and Michelle Horn, Mark and Eric Less, Shawn and Kristen Montag, Nicole and Jason Ivanovic, and Amber, Clay, and Lucas Montag; two brothers: Richard (Patty) Montag of Colorado, and Jerry (Alberta) Montag, Rockford; and one sister, Anna Zita (Rex) Brown, West Bend.

He is preceded in death by an infant son, Gregory; brothers Tom, Maurice, Vincent, and Emmet; and sisters Helen Ladd and Mary Bea Besch.
