MASON CITY, IOWA — Iva Julietta McDonough, 92, of Mason City, died Friday (March 11, 2005) at Good Shepherd Care Center in Mason City.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. today at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City, with the Rev. Jon Seda of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood- St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time today at the chapel.

Iva Julietta McDonough was born on Dec. 14, 1912, one of eight children, in Floyd County, the daughter of James P. and Francis M. (Brown) Doran. She attended rural country schools in Rockwell and graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1930. Iva also graduated from Mason City Junior College in 1955 and from Drake University in 1967.

In 1931, she began teaching school in Franklin and Cerro Gordo counties and in 1955 began teaching in the Manly Independent School District until she retired at the age of 62. Iva continued to be a substitute for several years.

She was united in marriage to Joseph M. McDonough on Aug. 14, 1940, in Rockwell. He preceded her in death in 1951.

She enjoyed reading, and watching TV, but her great love and enjoyment was spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City and the retired teachers association.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Mary K. Jennings and her husband, Steve, of Manly; four grandchildren: Heather Jennings of St. Paul, Minn., Holli Jennings of Denver, Colo., Heidi Jennings and her husband, Chad Hanson, of Hampton and Hilleri Jennings and her husband, Travis Carlsen, of Camarillo, Calif.; three great-grandchildren: Ally, Ashlyn and Avery Hanson all of Hampton; many nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband she was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael McDonough; two grandchildren: Shannon and Ann Marie; and seven brothers and sisters.
