Evelyn was born on Sept. 12, 1905, and was one of six children born to Daniel and Kathryn "Seery" Roarty at New Hampton, Iowa. She Graduated from New Hampton High School.

She was united in marriage to August H. Derenthal on Oct. 22, 1934, at New Hampton. She settled into being a housewife and assisted on the farm when they moved to Elma.

As she raised her four children she never complained and was always there for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a peacemaker at heart and with her pleasant attitude was always a joy to be around.

She loved to crochet afghans for her family. She was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Theresa's Circle and the Altar and Rosary Society of Holy Name Catholic Church.

Evelyn was a wonderful cook and homemaker. She was a member of the Senior Citizens, where she participated and enjoyed playing cards. She had a twinkle in her eye and was the perfect little Irish Lady.

During her working years, she was employed in central supply at Mercy Hospital sterilizing instruments used in surgery. Following 15 years of work, she often volunteered in the surgery waiting room helping families cope with the stresses of having a loved one there.

She is survived by her loving daughters and their husbands, Kathryn and Jim Milota, Rudd, Mary Ellen and Mike Allison, Rockford, and Judy and Roger Boman, Grant, Colo.; 12 grandchildren, Mike and Dan Burke, Julie (Burke) Jansen, Jim and Dave Burke, Lyman Boman and Jennifer (Boman) Phillips, Jon, Tim, Matt, Pat and Chris Allison, 15 great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.

Her husband, August, who died in July 1973; her son, Tom, who died in February 1997; one great-granddaughter, Keli Burke; four sisters, Anna Mae Ferry, Lillian Schnurr, Hazel Cabaniss and Genevieve Vermuelen; and one brother, Clem Roarty, preceded her in death.
