Edith Burnett, age 94, formerly of Nashua and Rockford, Iowa, passed away Wednesday morning (Feb. 23, 2005) at Nora Springs Care Center in Nora Springs, Floyd county, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, 319 Main Street in Nashua, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, also in Nashua.

Visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Edith Burnett was born in Chickasaw County on Jan. 16, 1911, the daughter of Harry and Lida (Todd) Goodell. She graduated from Nashua High School in 1929 and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught in rural Chickasaw County schools.

Edith was united in marriage to Lester Burnett on June 3, 1930, at the Little Brown Church. To this union five children were born. They farmed in the Nashua area until 1947, when they moved to Rockford and opened their hardware and plumbing business. Edith worked as bookkeeper and secretary for a number of doctors after they sold the hardware store. Edith moved to Nora Springs and later to Nashua after Lester's death. She moved to the Nora Springs Care Center in 2000 due to failing health.

She enjoyed flowers, gardening, bingo and Las Vegas. She took great pride in keeping her home and yard in a neat and tidy condition.

Edith is survived by three sons, Tom (Carol) Burnett and Roger (Gayle) Burnett, all of Rockford, and Dick (Louise) Burnett of Vancouver, Wash.; one daughter, Beverly Gersema of Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter-in-law, Corrin Burnett of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Burnett of Charles City; 15 grandchildren and one stepgrandson; 11 great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Burnett; one son, Jerry Burnett; three grandsons, Doug and Ken Gersema and Dale Burnett; her parents; and one brother, Asa Goodell.
