CHARLES CITY, IOWA — Ruth M. Hartwell, 89, of Charles City, died Friday (Jan. 14, 2005) at the Community Nursing Home in Clarksville.

Funeral service is tentatively being planned for Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City, with burial in Spring Grove Cemetery, Nora Springs

Visitation will be Monday at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua. (Funeral and visitation times are pending).

Ruth M. Hartwell

CHARLES CITY — Ruth M. Hartwell, 89, of Charles City passed away Friday afternoon (Jan. 14, 2005) at the Community Nursing Home in Clarksville.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City with burial in Spring Grove Cemetery at Nora Springs.

Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Hugeback and Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Ruth Marie Hartwell was born Aug. 22, 1915, on a farm north of Nora Springs, the daughter of Ellsworth and Ada Blanche (Reed) Treloar. She attended Nora Springs High School where she was active in sports and graduated in 1932.

She was united in marriage to Leland Hartwell on March 4, 1933, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They lived in Nora Springs until 1951 when they moved to Charles City.

Ruth remained in her home until July of 2004, when, due to failing health, she became a resident of Community Nursing Home in Clarksville.

She worked part-time for Iowa Title and Realty Company and was a day care provider at Central School Nursery.

Ruth was a member of Trinity Methodist Church and active in circle. She was a long-time member of Eastern Star. She will be remembered as a fun-loving and energetic mother and grandmother.

Ruth is survived by one son, Jerry (Sue) Hartwell of Charles City; two daughters: Joan Strickler of Greene and Janet (Charles) Bonzer of Charles City; one brother, Norris "Jim" (Estelle) Treloar of Clear Lake; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland "Skip" Hartwell, June 14, 1997; her parents; two brothers: Howard and Ralph Treloar; one sister, Elsie Chenoweth; and a son-in-law, Robert Strickler.

Hugeback and Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua is in charge of the arrangements.
