Lucille M. Bartell

RUDD, IOWA — Mrs. Lucille M. Bartell, 97, formerly of Mason City and Rudd died Saturday (January 29, 2005) in Tawas City, Michigan.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Rudd United Methodist Church, Rudd. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City. The visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be given to the Rudd United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Bartell was born on the 14th of July, 1907, in Algona, Kossuth County, Iowa, to Adeline Sifert and Joseph Scoville. She attended Mason City schools.

Lucille worked at Stoddard Manufacturing during World War II and at Kresge's Department Store, where she retired as millinery manager. She also performed the accounting duties for her husband's business.

On August 19, 1929, she was united in marriage with Delos at her brother's home in Ames.

She loved nature, especially feeding and watching birds and she loved to go fishing. Lucille was also an avid gardener and enjoyed traveling. She was a long-time member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and later the Rudd United Methodist Church. Prior to that, she was certified as a Sunday School teacher at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mason City. She was a long-time member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Cultural Club in Rudd. She took great joy and pride in her family.

Left to cherish her memories are her sons, Glenn A. Bartell and his wife, Evelyn, of Wrens, Ga., Rex D. Bartell and his wife, Cecilia, of Mason City, Dr. Larry S. Bartell of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; and one beloved daughter, Alice L. Bailey and her husband, John, of Tawas City, Mich.

Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Delos A. Bartell, her parents, five sisters, and four brothers.
