ROCKFORD MAN DIES

MASON CITY, IOWA - Roger Jay Squier, 93, of 2060 S. Kentucky Ave., Mason City, died Sunday (Feb. 22, 2009) at the Kentucky Ridge Assisted Living facility, Mason City.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at Grace United Methodist Church, 200 14th St. N.W. Mason City, with Pastor Steve Hansen officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 26, 2009, at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., and also one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family in memory of Roger.

Roger was born on April 6, 1915, in Rockford, Floyd ocunty, Iowa, the son of George and Olga (Krieger) Squier. He married Margaret Brinkman on Oct. 2, 1938 in Greene, Iowa, and to this union four children were born.

Roger drove semi truck from Des Moines Transportation/May-flower for many years. He also worked as a hired man on different farms in the area, then worked maintenance at the Holiday Inn until he fully retired when he was 75 years old.

In his spare time, Roger enjoyed fishing, playing cards, going to the casino, making crafts for the children at the church along with playing Santa Claus, and watching NASCAR races on television.

He also loved participating in the many activities at Kentucky Ridge, where he had lived since May. Roger was a member of Teamsters, and Grace United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Mason City; his children, Patricia (Dale) Straw, of Waterloo, Jerry Squier, of Chandler, Ariz., and Lorene (Lowell) Johnson, of Rock Falls; his grandchildren, Gary (Karen) Johnson, of Mason City, Sherry (Andrew) Herman, of Lakeland, Fla., Dawn (Jeff) Nielsen, of Waterloo, Michael Straw, of Waterloo, Sandra Pierce, of Waterloo, Roger Pierce, of Waterloo, Tina (Terry) Wolfer, of Phoenix, Ariz., Tiffany (Ryan) Kortman, of Phoenix, Ariz. and Terry Boehnke, of Chandler, Ariz.; numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; his siblings, Burr (Marvelle) Squier, of Rudd, Inez Bendickson, of Mason City, Bonnie (Bernie) Bitzen, of Minnesota, Gary (LaVonne) Squier, of Minnesota, Phyllis Brundell, of South Dakota, Sandy (Don) Schulte, of Minnesota, and Duane (Kim) Squier, of Minnesota.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sharon, grandsons, David Pierce, Kevin Pierce and Ryan Pierce; his granddaughter, Tammy Folwler; and his siblings, Truman Squier, Irene Medlin, Shirley Sell, Wendell Squier, Dolores Williams, Marlene Stumm and Donna Jean Gnasdoskey.
