CHARLES CITY, IOWA — Marlys J. Patterson, 68, of 801 Howard St. in Charles City, died early Friday morning (Dec. 30, 2005) at her home in Charles City with family at her side.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main St. in Charles City, with the Rev. David Werges officiating. Interment will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City. The visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.

Marlys Joan Patterson was born Oct. 12, 1937, in Charles City, the daughter of Eugene and Inga (Queel) DeWalle. Marlys lived all of her life in Charles City, graduating from Charles City High School with the class of 1955.

On Aug. 24, 1957, Marlys was united in marriage to Robert E. Patterson in Charles City at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was employed as a clerk with Spurgeon’s Clothing Store for 22 years in Charles City and later worked for Casey’s General Store in Charles City for five years until retiring in 2001.

Marlys was active in life, her interests and favorite passion included completing craftwork such as crochet and embroidery. She enjoyed gambling, flower gardening, watching and feeding the birds and collecting cat figurines. She will be remembered as being very family oriented and being an extremely tidy person.

Marlys’ greatest priority was caring for her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Marlys will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in her life are her two sons, Quinn (Renee) Patterson of Sigourney and Kevin (Tina) Patterson of Charles City; four grandchildren, Jodee Patterson and her fiance, Andrew Vickerman, Dylan Patterson, Megan Patterson and Emily Patterson; one great-granddaughter, Kirah Vickerman; three sisters, Genevieve Herron of Charles City, Phyllis (Lester) Nauman of Floyd and Celaine (Gilbert) Gerleman of Charles City; one brother, Eugene (Betty) DeWalle of Green Bay, Wis.; as well as several nieces and nephews that survive her.

Marlys is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert E. Patterson on Dec. 29, 2002; a brother, Donald “Popeye” DeWalle.
