ROCKFORD, IOWA — Nellie M. Wilson, 96, of Rockford, died Monday morning (Dec. 20, 2004) at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Rockford with the Rev. Kenneth Kent officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Nellie Mae was born one of eight children to William and Matilda Ann "Comstock" Cook on Dec. 5, 1908, at Calhoun, Ill. At an early age she moved to Iowa. She later lived with her sister near Cedar Rapids and worked for several years at area businesses.

She moved to Rockford where she met and married Charles Wilson on Nov. 13, 1930. They moved to Omaha, where she was closer to her mother. They then returned to Rockford about 1970 and she lived there until becoming a resident of the nursing home. She attended First United Methodist Church in Rockford. She enjoyed tending her vegetable garden, going to rummage sales, reading cowboy comics and movie star magazines.

Her favorite social activities were sitting and visiting with her family and baby sitting her nieces, nephews and neighborhood children.

Nellie is survived by her brother, Jim Ray, of Robinson, Ill.; her sister-in-law, Esther Cook, of Rockford; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, on Dec. 25, 1979, four sisters and two brothers.
