Gertrude Marie Byrne was born May 17, 1933, in Lynn Center, Ill., the daughter of Harold and Elvera (Sundvall) Seabloom. She attended school in Illinois.

On Oct. 8, 1966, Gertrude was united in marriage to James Melton Byrne in Moline, Ill. The couple had lived in Orion, Ill. and Charles City, before making their home in Rockford, on Oct. 8, 1968. Following the couple's marriage, Gertrude was employed as a nurse's aide with the Glen Oak Nursing Home in Coal Valley, Ill. She had also worked various jobs until retiring. Gertrude was a devoted wife and homemaker she took great pride in nurturing her children and grandchildren. She was faithful in celebrating all holidays with her family, especially Christmas the day had great meaning to her because it is also her son Jim's birthday.

Gertrude will be best remembered as an independent and strong-willed woman. She was family oriented, enjoyed talking on the phone and was a very social person. Some of Gertrude's interests and leisure activities included crocheting ripple afghans, which she tailored and crafted for family and friends. She enjoyed solving word search puzzles, fishing on the Shell Rock River, listening to a variety of music from country and western to contemporary classical; and watching all sports, especially golf and girls basketball.

Gertrude will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Those grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in Getrude's life are her children, Roxanne Byrne of Rockford; Jim Byrne of Rockford; her six grandchildren, Joshua, Jill, Stephanie, Jimmy, Jessica and Kolton; a brother, Maynard Seabloom of Gelva, Ill., and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends left to cherish her memory.

Gertrude is preceded in death by her husband, James Melton Byrne, on July 26, 1969; her parents; and one sister, Juanita Wilson.
