CHARLES CITY, IOWA — Cleola E. Patton, 85, of 22 S. Cedar Terrace, Charles City died Thursday (Nov. 25, 2004) at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home in Rockwell.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Chapel Lane in Charles City with Monsignor Walter L. Brunkan presiding.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City. A scripture wake service will be held at 6:30 p.m. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the funeral Mass Monday at the church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.

Cleola Elaine Patton was born Nov. 23, 1919, the daughter of Irving and Palma (Dyrdal) Jones. Cleola attended and graduated from Manly High School in 1937.
On May 25, 1940, Cleola was united in marriage to John H. Patton Sr. in Mason City. The couple lived in Mason City before making their home in Charles City in 1946. John Sr. and Cleola owned and operated the Checkerboard Café in Charles City from 1960 to 1968. She also worked various jobs until retiring in 1980.
Cleola was a devoted wife and took great pride in nurturing her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-granddaughter.
She was faithful in celebrating all holidays with her family, making each one of them feel unconditionally and equally loved in her own unique way.
Cleola and her husband, John, were always together and enjoyed entertaining friends and special fishing trips to northern Minnesota. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and especially enjoyed watching basketball.
Cleola looked forward to the annual Jones family reunion and treasured time spent with family. She welcomed weekly visits from her sister, Darlene, and brother-in-law, Don Kennison.
Cleola was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City and was a devoted member of the St. Frances Church Circle.
Grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in Cleola’s life are her children, Roxanne (Ron) Meyers of Charles City, John “Jack” (Sue) Patton Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Bob (Chris) Patton of Ames, and Renee (Alan) Venz of Northwood; her sister, Darlene (Don) Kennison of Albert Lea, Minn.; thirteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; a sister-in-law, Jeri Patton, of Waterloo and a brother-in-law, Wib (Lu) Cline of Austin, Minn. Other survivors include many nieces, nephews and friends left to cherish her memory.
Cleola is preceded in death by her husband; John H. Patton Sr. on February 6, 1989; her parents; one sister and one brother.
