MASON CITY, IOWA — Lester E. Johnson, 95, of Independence, Mo., formerly of Mason City died Tuesday (Sept. 14, 2004) in Independence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with Pastor Darwin Miller Jr., Faith Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service today at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Lester E. Johnson Memorial Fund.

Lester was born March 2, 1909, in Eldora, Iowa, the son of Samuel E. and Lura E. (Hooker) Johnson.

He married Marie Junkermeier on Sept. 1, 1932, in Rockford, Iowa. Lester farmed in the Rockford area for many years. He and wife Marie moved to Mason City in 1973 where they operated the Dime a Time Laundromat. In October of 1999, Lester moved to Blue Springs, Mo., to be near his son, David, and family. Lester was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Lester is survived by his son, David E. Johnson and wife, Linda, of Blue Springs, Mo.; son-in-law, D. J. Hillman of Rock Falls; grandchildren, Naomi Hagler and husband Billie, Mandy Johnson, Kylee Stewart and husband Luke, Isaac Johnson and James Hillman; great-grandchildren, McKayla, David, Abigail, Austin, Aunesty and Natilie.

Lester’s parents, wife, Marie; daughter, Ruth Hillman; granddaughter, Debbie Grarup; and sister, Hazel Vierkant, preceded him in death.
