NORA SPRINGS, IOWA — John Schwade, 86, of Nora Springs, died Saturday (Sept. 11, 2004) at the Nora Springs Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 North Hawkeye, Nora Springs, with the Rev. Ruth Hansen of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Nora Springs officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service time on Wednesday at the chapel. Following the services, and according to his wishes, his body will be cremated with graveside inurnment at a later date in the Park Cemetery in Nora Springs.
The family of John Schwade has requested that memorial contributions be made to the St. Luke Lutheran Church in Nora Springs, or to the Nora Springs Care Center in his memory.
John Schwade was born on Aug. 17, 1918, in Nora Springs, the son of William and Ella (Bohnsack) Schwade. He was baptized at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton and attended and received his education in the Grafton Community Schools.
He was united in marriage to Eleanor Baack on Dec. 6, 1942, at the Lutheran Parsonage in Rockford.
John raised life stock cattle and crops all his life for 45 plus years in the Mason City area and for most of his life he farmed in the Nora Springs area. After his retirement, John loved to drive out to his farm every day.
John also enjoyed doing mechanic work, tinkering with machines, collecting John Deere tractors and John Deere toy tractors, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and friends.
He was a Lutheran by faith.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Eleanor Schwade of Nora Springs; a daughter, Betty Sheriff and her husband, Robert, of Belmond; three sons: Gene Schwade and his wife, Lois, of Mason City, Gerald Schwade and his wife, Kathy, of Nora Springs, and Donald Schwade of Nora Springs; five grandchildren: Susan Sheriff of Dows and John Sheriff and his wife, Debna, of Ames, Justin Schwade of Seattle, Wash., and Jessica Schwade of Des Moines, and Jeremy Schwade of Nora Springs; as well as other relative and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Martin Schwade.
