NORA SPRINGS, IOWA — Elmer Lawrence Fingalsen, 86, of Litchfield, Minn., formerly of Nora Springs, died Sunday (June 27, 2004) at Emmanuel Home in Litchfield.

Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Nora Springs Christian Church, 102 N. Hawkeye in Nora Springs, with the Rev. Glen Bandell officiating. Burial will be in the Park Cemetery in Nora Springs.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye Ave., and one hour prior to service time on Thursday at the church.

The family of Elmer Lawrence Fingalsen has requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Nora Springs Christian Church in his memory.

Elmer Lawrence Fingalsen was born on January 29, 1918, in Nora Springs, the son of L.W. (Wilmer) and Anna (Rethamel) Fingalsen. He attended and received his education in the Nora Springs school system.

He was united in marriage to Norma June Schutz on Dec. 25, 1939, at the Nora Springs Christian Church. She preceded him in death on Aug. 15, 1997. Elmer worked for the Oliver Corp. in Charles City until 1948, when they moved to a farm north of Nora Springs and farmed for several years until moving to Nora Springs in 1958. In the spring of 1992, they moved to their present home in Litchfield, Minnesota.

He enjoyed gardening, especially growing vegetables and giving them to his family and neighbors, fishing, cooking, loved to play ball with his dog Molly, and enjoyed his Sunday rides with family and friends; but his great love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren. He was a member of the Nora Springs Christian Church and the U.A.W. Local 1315 of Charles City.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Jim Fingalsen and his wife, Nancy, of Litchfield, Minn., and Thomas Fingalsen, of Mason City; grandchildren, Shane Fingalsen and his wife, Erin, Bruce Fingalsen and his wife, Julie, and Bryan Fingalsen and his wife, Jennifer; step-grandchildren, Tami Wirth and her husband, Jeff, Toni Olson and her husband, John, and Tara Guza and her husband, Jim; great-grandchildren, Blake, Kegen, and Kessa and Will Fingalsen; step-great-grandchildren, Dillon, and Jessica Wirth, Mikaela Hopp, Jolie Olson, Justin and Madison Guza; one sister, Shirley Manning and her husband, Mel, of Nora Springs; one brother, Allan Fingalsen and his wife, Bette, of Nora Springs; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Besides his wife he was also preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Stephanie Fingalsen; a great-grandchild, Barak Fingalsen; and two brothers, Ellsworth and Virgil Fingalsen.
