NORA SPRINGS, IOWA — Margaret L. Jorgensen, 96, of Nora Springs, formerly of rural Rudd, died at the Nora Springs Care Center on Saturday (April 24, 2004), where she had been a resident for the past nine and a half years.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Rudd United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Turner officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St. in Charles City, and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Rudd.

Margaret Louise (Forsyth) Jorgensen was born in Paw Paw, Ill., to Mary (Miller) Forsyth and Chris E. Forsyth on Aug. 16, 1907. She attended rural school in Floyd County and graduated from Charles City High School in 1926. She attended Cedar Falls College. She taught in rural schools for seven and a half years including her home school Ulster No. 3, Frankenfield School and Ray Jurrens School.

On May 14, 1933, Margaret married George P. Jorgensen, and they farmed together in the Charles City area, and Rockford and Rudd Townships until the death of her husband, George, in 1972. Margaret remained on the farm until July 1994, when she established residence at the Nora Springs Care Center in Nora Springs.

She enjoyed her church work as a member and chairman of the WSCS Circle and a member of the Rudd United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Heritage Club, Farm Bureau Women, 500 Card Club, Jolly Rudders Senior Citizens, Rudd Homemakers, and was an assistant 4-H leader.

She was an avid gardener, canning and freezing the garden’s yield, helped her husband in the field, enjoyed fishing, playing cards, entertaining guests for meals, crafts, and doing many other neighborly deeds. She dearly loved her seven grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending the school activities they participated in.

Survivors include her three children and their spouses, Ronald (Gila) Jorgensen, of Rockford, Doris (Charles) Briggs, of North Port, Fla., and Harold (Marilyn) Jorgensen, of Rudd; seven grandchildren: Kirk (Kim) Briggs, of Venice, Fla., Sandra Haller, of Loveland, Colo., Bryan (Lori) Briggs, of Nokomis, Fla., Kathleen (Kevin) Smith, of Rockford, James (Debra) Jorgensen, of Charles City, Kristy (David) Chambers, of Osage, and Wendy (Steve) Fullerton, of Rockford; 20 great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1972; her parents; two sisters, Meta Keyes and Berdina Olson; and one brother, Wilbur Forsyth.
