She attended Marble Rock Consolidated School the first seven years of her schooling, and later attended schols in Greene and Allison before graduating from Charles City High School in 1933 with honors. She taught rural schools in both Floyd and Butler Counties for more than six years.

On Nov. 23, 1938, she was united in marriage to Joseph Floyd Needham of Bristow at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Following their marriage they farmed in Bennezette Township, west of Greene, and near Charles City, until their retirement in March 1976. Margaret was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and her family was her first priority and concern. She enjoyed doing for others.

She was baptized on July 12, 1936, at the First Presbyterian Church in Greene and later became a lifelong member of the church. She held offices in the Presbyterian Women Circle and good Cheer Sunday School Class. She was a long time member of the Better Way Club, Farm Bureau, and was a 4-H leader.
