CHARLES CITY, IOWA — Elma Meier, 90, formerly of 900 Ninth St. in Charles City, died Thursday (April 1, 2004) at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services for Elma Meier will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Bethany Alliance Church with the Rev. Kent Sovine, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Hauser Funeral Home,1205 S. Main St. in Charles City and continue one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.

Elma Eleanora Ernst Meier was born July 22, 1913, on a farm east of Rockford, the daughter of John and Anna (Vietmeier) Ernst.

She was baptized and confirmed at the Flood Creek Methodist Church and later asked Jesus into her heart as her personal Lord and Savior.

Elma graduated from Rockford High School in 1931

On Nov. 17, 1932, she was united in marriage to Julius Meier in the home of her aunt, Lydia Kuppinger, at Mason City.

They lived in the Rockford area for many years, where they raised turkeys and did custom bailing while they farmed. Elma worked right along with Julius on the farming operation.

She was a member of Bethany Alliance Church, Woman’s Club and had served on the Riverside Cemetery Board at Rockford. She was known as a lady that loved flowers and gardening. They traveled twice back to Germany, where Julius was born, and also traveled in all of the United States except for Alaska and Hawaii.

Living family members include a daughter, Doris Rolfes of Woodbury, Minn.; a son, Eugene (Lucille) of Rockford; six grandchildren, Lyndon Meier, of Rockford and fiancée, Jewel Ransom, Janette Meier, of Rockford, Starla (Barry) Munson, of Iowa Falls, Bob Rolfes Jr. of New Braunfels, Texas, Brian Rolfes of Cottage Grove, Minn., and Kathy (Rolfes) Goettle of Aurora, Colo.; seven great-grandchildren, and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Julius, on Oct. 25, 1992; a half-brother, and an infant son, Leland.

The family suggests memorials be directed to the American Diabetes Association.
