GREENE, IOWA — Funeral services for Robert K. “Bob” Strickler, 70, of 521 N. Fifth St., Greene and formerly of Nora Springs, will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Nora Springs with Pastor Jim Turner and Pastor Paul Uzel officiating.

Burial will be in the Spring Grove Cemetery in Nora Springs with military rites conducted by Nora Springs H.D.S. Post 449 of the American Legion.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Reid’s Funeral Chapel in Greene and will continue one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Robert Kenneth Strickler was born Feb. 22, 1933, in Jenners Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, a son of George Alfred and Neva Virginia (Blair) Strickler, and died Wednesday (Jan. 28, 2004) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit in Charles City.

He received his education in the public schools in Boswell, Pa., and entered the United States Air Force on Aug. 30, 1950, serving with the 802nd Motor Vehicle Squad. He was honorably discharged on Sept. 5, 1953.

On June 25, 1952, he was united in marriage to Joan Hartwell in Mason City. They made their home in Mason City and later in Nora Springs. They were both employed by Northwestern States Portland Cement Co. in Mason City.

Bob retired in 1985 with 31 years of service to the company. Bob and Joan moved to Greene in 1995. They enjoyed traveling, which included going to Branson, Mo., often. Bob’s interests included hunting, fishing and working on home improvement projects. He was a good cook.

Bob was a member of the Nora Springs Volunteer Am-bulance for eight years, CPR instructor and served on the Nora Springs City Council. He was Little League coach, Boy Scout leader and a member of the Nora Springs H.D.S. Post 449 American Legion. He was custodian of the United Methodist Church for several years.

Living family members include his loving wife of 52 years, Joan, of Greene; one daughter, Connie (John) Stone of Ellenville, N.Y.; two sons, Robert Jr. (Peggy) Strickler of Bristow, and Jeff (Jan) Strickler of Waverly; five grandchildren, Tonya and her husband, Sam, Jessie, Jonna, Justin and Jennifer; two great-grandchildren, Sammy and Elena; and one brother, George (June) Strickler of Pittsburgh, Pa., and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Violet Koba, and two nep-hews, Carey and Glen.
