CRYSTAL LAKE, ILLINOIS — Sheila G. Riebe, 58, of Crystal Lake, died Wednesday (Aug. 6, 2003) at Sherman Hospital in Elgin, Illinois.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Zion Lutheran Church, 805 E. Main Ave., in Rockford, Iowa, with the Rev. Patricia Shaw officiating. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Marble Rock, Floyd county, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Fullerton Schumburg Funeral Home, 302 W. Main St., Rockford.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Hospice of North Iowa.

She was born June 20, 1945, in Saginaw, Mich., to Blaine and Thelma (Dahlen) Crowell. She was a graduate of Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock High School.

On Aug. 16, 1969, in Rockford, Iowa, she married Rolf Riebe at Zion Lutheran Church. To this union was born one daughter and one son.

During their early years they enjoyed traveling to Europe and Colorado and making several trips to Door County in Wisconsin.

The family also spent time at the beaches in North and South Carolina.

Sheila also had a love of music and dancing. While in Rockford she was a piano teacher. Sheila decided in second grade that she wanted to be a teacher and she devoted more than 30 years of her life teaching in Crystal Lake School District #47, most re-cently at North Elementary teaching fifth grade.

She often took time to tut-or children from her neighbor-hood. “Sometimes she felt that she could do more good as a teacher than if she were president of the United States,” said her husband. Her last year of teaching due to the cancer was the 1999-2000 school year.

As her students grew older they came back to let her know how they were and who they had become. To all teachers the family thanks you “for all you do” and hopes that her life will serve as a testament to everyone who has dedicated their lives to teaching.

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and the P.E.O.

She enjoyed flower gardening and tending her plants and felt her time was best spent with her family and making sure everyone else came first.

She enjoyed cross-stitch and watching Animal Planet, which went along with her love of animals.

The support of friends helped Sheila and the family make this ordeal more bearable.

Those thankful in sharing Sheila’s life include her husband, Rolf, of 33 years; two children, Heidi Jo Riebe and her fiancé, Tim Dunderdale, of Woodstock, and Ryan Paul Riebe of Crystal Lake; and her mother, Thelma Crowell of Rockford, Iowa.

Her father preceded her in death on June 30, 2002.

Fullerton Funeral Home and Cremation Service assisted the family with making arrangements. ( 641) 756-3311.
