ROCKFORD, IOWA - William "Bill" Perry Burgess, 61, of Northwood, and formerly of Rockford, Iowa, died Tuesday (Aug. 5, 2003) at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Knoxville.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Fullerton-Schumburg Funeral Home, 302 W. Main St., Rockford, with the Rev. Mike McAbee officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Rockford, Worth county, Iowa.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Saturday at the funeral home.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to direct memorials to the family.

William "Bill" P. Burgess was born in Rockford on Feb. 8, 1942, the son of Perry and Betty (Lewis) Burgess. Bill grew up in and attended school in Rockford. He had lived in Nora Springs and most recently in Northwood.

Bill honorably served his country as a U.S. Marine Corp.

He had been a member of the National Rifle Association. His interests and leisure activities included music, playing the guitar and a great passion for fishing.

Those grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in Bill's life include his brother, Gene "Sammy" Lewis; three half-sisters, Connie Graham of Rockford, Joyce (Harly) Shaw of Orchard and Lola (Jon) Mills of Rosemont, Minn.; and his sister-in-law, Rita Hewitt of Mason City. He also will be sadly missed by several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; two half-brothers, Elmer and Jerry Hewitt; and his nephew, Scott Hewitt.
