NORA SPRINGS, IOWA — M. Genevieve Witt, 77, passed away Saturday (July 19, 2003) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 302 5th St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Michael J. Podhajsky officiating.

Burial will be at Park Cemetery in Nora Springs. Lunch will follow at the Catholic Community Center, Nora Springs.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Scheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 North Hawkeye, Nora Springs. A scriptural vigil service will be at 7 p.m.

Genevieve requests memorials be given to either the Nora Springs Catholic Community Center or the St. Joseph Capital Improvement Fund.

Genevieve Witt was born January 20, 1926, in Rockwell, Iowa, to Bernard J. and Mary Catherine (McCarthy) Fitzgerald. She attended Sacred Heart Academy at Rockwell and graduated from there in 1943.

She married Harold Witt on November 30, 1946, at St. Joseph’s Rectory in Mason City.

She and her husband farmed in the Nora Springs area until retirement in 1985. Her hobbies were reading, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and cryptograms. She was an avid Chicago Cubs Fan.

Gen is survived by her son, Bill Witt and his wife, Nancy, of Nora Springs; daughter, Barbara O’Donnell, and her husband, Dennis, of Mason City; son, Jim Witt, and his wife, Pam, of Mason City, and daughter, Jolene Juhl, and her husband, David, of St. Ansgar. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Paul Witt and his wife, Heather, of Midland, Michigan, Christie Witt of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, Jarod Brallier and special friend, Liz French, and her son, Nick O’Dell, of Mason City, Nicole Seybert and her husband, Steve, of Nora Springs, Jeremy Witt and his wife, Mary, of Mason City, Randy Juhl and his wife, Kim, of Apple Valley Minnesota, and Michael Juhl and his fiancée, Jodi Thompson, of St. Ansgar; step- grandchildren, Tiffany O’Donnell and Nick O’Donnell both of Phoenix, Arizona; great-grandchildren, Colin Witt, Nathan Witt, Evan Seybert, Maysen Simmer, Paisley Witt, Caitlyn Juhl and Alex Juhl; two sisters, Alice Ebeling and her husband, Gary, of Humbolt, Iowa, and Mary Jane Moss and her husband, Ken, of Dyersville, Iowa; brother-in-law Dale Witt of Nora Springs; sister-in-law Bonnie Billings and her husband, Jim, of Nora Springs, and several nieces and nephews.

Gen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold, on December 23, 2000; a brother, Bernard Fitzgerald and his wife, Doris; a sister, Marquerite Maxwell and her husband, Bill; her grandson, Jonathan Paul Juhl; her nephew, Bruce Billings; her son-in-law, James Brallier; and her sister-in-law, Edna Hallabrin and her husband, Phil.
