FLOYD, IOWA - LaVerna Ruth Hansen, 89, of Indianapolis, Ind., and a former longtime resident of Floyd, passed away Monday (March 24, 2003) at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City, with Pastor Larry Hansen officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour before the service Saturday.

The family suggests that memorials be given to the American Cancer Society in memory of LaVerna R. Hansen.

LaVerna was born May 25, 1913, to James and Anna (Schaefer) Gunn at Wall Lake, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Arnold E. Hansen on May 25, 1934, at Nora Springs. The couple made their home in Floyd since 1944.

LaVerna is survived by a son, Larry D. Hansen and his wife, Carol, of Platte City, Mo., and a daughter, Shirley M. Bennett and her husband, James, of Indianapolis, Ind., with whom she had been living for a number of years. She is also survived by five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

LaVerna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnold, and three sisters.
